Rod Cedaro was awarded his Masters degree in 1990 after completing a research thesis in the area of exercise performance and carbohydrate metabolism. In the same year he won the Australian Ironman Triathlon Championships and was appointed to the position of the Sports Science Co-ordinater at the Tasmanian Institute of Sport. In 1991 he moved to Canberra to work as a Consultant Sports Physiologist at the Australian Institute of Sport working directly with the athletes and coaches of Australia's elite swimming and cycling programs. He also continued his own competitive involvement in triathlon and duathlon at an elite/professional level taking 5th at the 1991 ITU World Duathlon Championships.
In 1992 Rod and a group of eminent Australian Sports Scientists produced one of the world's leading triathlon training manuals (Triathlon Into the 90's), and in the same year he launched Australian Triathlete Magazine. In 1998 Rod became the founding editor of Triathlon & Multi-Sport Magazine which has come to be recognised world wide as one of the most authoritative multi-sport publications available.
Through the 1990s Rod balanced a professional sports science career with an elite athletic interest which saw him win two Brisbane City Marathons (1993 and 1994 - in a course record time of 2:23), plus numerous top 10 placings in major multi-sport competitions throughout the world.
He has consulted to a number of international sporting organisations including:
- The International Olympic Committee (Triathlon Solidarity Camp).
- International Triathlon Union (Coaching Commission).
- The Singapore Sports Council (SSC).
- The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI).
- The Fiji Amateur Sports Council (FASNOC).
